Inventory Decisions in a Product-Updated System with Component Substitution and Product Substitution

چکیده
Substitution behaviors happen frequently when demands are uncertain in a production inventory system, and it has attracted enough attention from firms. Related researches can be clearly classified into firm-driven substitution and customer-driven substitution. However, if production inventory is stock-out when a firm updates its product, the firm may use a new generation product to satisfy the customer’s demandof old generation product or use updated component to substitute old component to satisfy production demand. Obviously, two cases of substitution exist simultaneously in the product-updated system when an emergent shortage happens. In this paper, we consider a component order problem with component substitution and product substitution simultaneously in a product-updated system, where the case of firm-driven substitution or customer-driven substitution can be reached by setting different values for two system parameters. Firstly, we formulate the problem into a two-stage dynamic programming. Secondly, we give the optimal decisions about assembled quantities of different types of products. Next, we prove that the expected profit function is jointly concave in order quantities and decrease the feasible domain by determining some bounds for decision variables. Finally, some management insights about component substitution and product substitution are investigated by theoretical analysis method.

Application of queuing theory in inventory systems with substitution flexibility
Considering the competition in today’s business environment, tactical planning of a supply chain becomes more complex than before. In many multi-product inventory systems, substitution flexibility can improve profits. This paper aims to prepare a comprehensive substitution inventory model, where an inventory system with two substitute products with ignorable lead time has been considered, and e...
متن کاملJoint Pricing and Inventory Control for Seasonal and Substitutable Goods Mentioning the Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Substitution
Nowadays many well-known firms may produce similar products at different prices in order to remain in the competitive environment. The price differences may cause substitution condition which motivates the customers to substitute the similar cheaper product with an expensive one leading to an environment which is known as “customer-based price driven substitution”. This research proposes a new ...
متن کاملSimulating the Demand Reshaping and Substitution Effects of Probabilistic Selling
This paper addresses the effect of probabilistic selling on inventory decisions and the expected profit through demand reshaping and demand substitution. By considering a scenario with two higher-priced specific products and one lower-priced probabilistic product, we construct a new newsboy-type inventory model with demand reshaping and substitution. A simulation study is implemented to explore...
متن کاملOptimal Planning Quantities for Product Transition
The replacement of an existing product with a new one presents many challenges. In particular, uncertainties in a new product introduction often lead to extreme cases of demand and supply mismatches. This paper addresses inventory planning decisions for product upgrades when there is no replenishment opportunity during the transition period. We allow product substitution: when a company runs ou...

Nitrate is an anion of major importance particularly in biological areas. Excessive amounts in water supplies indicate pollution from sewage or agricultural effluents. The effects of excessive quantities of nitrate in water are well known. In this research structural modification of natural clinoptilolite by isomorphic substitution was performed. Isomorphously substituted zeolite was prepar...
